The magic of seeds

Seeds

We raise nearly all our plants from seed which is much cheaper than buying plants. Seeds lose their ability to germinate over time and details for differing vegetables storage times are provided at http://sites.google.com/site/cyprusgardener/home/vegetables/seed-saving

Their storage life can be extended by keeping seeds in a dry and cool place and by keeping the seeds in paper bags which can be placed in a dark airtight jar. Storing seeds in plastic bags will allow moisture to possibly damage your stored seeds.

There are many varieties of seed for each vegetable but I would recommend wherever possible buying seeds suitable for organic growing which are more likely to be disease and pest resistant but above all avoid genetically modified seeds. We have always saved our own like beans, rocket and many other seeds, have never encountered any problems and have saved money which can be spent on difficult to germinate plants.
